SeaGate have launched a new external hard drive which is targeting an audience who hate lugging around a bulky external hard drive. The GoFlex Slim performance drive offers 320GB of storage in a form factor which is roughly as thick as a pencil.
The GoFlex weighs only 160g and measures 124 x 78 x 9 mm which is extremely impressive when a 2.5 inch drive is 9.5mm thick without the enclosure. It is only slightly larger than most smartphones on the market and will fit into a pocket easily enough.
It would be expected that this drive would have a 5,400 rpm speed, but it is a performance 7,200rpm drive with a USB 3.0 interface. Speed testing online doesn't indicate great performance, with Engadget recording speeds around 40MB/s.
KitGuru says: UK pricing has not yet been announced, but in the US it can be bought for $100 with free backup and encryption software included as part of the package deal with a three year warranty. It comes formatted as NTFS for Macintosh, so a reformat will be needed for Windows users.
We all know this is going to cost £100 when it gets to UK, usual rip off.
Nice drive, would be ideal for my college studies.
