MultiVersus launched last year and was a surprise hit for a little while. However, after selling a bunch of DLC and even hosting a couple of post-launch seasonal content updates, MultiVersus is now going offline until 2024.
Back in March, the development team confused us all by announcing plans to take MultiVersus offline after spending more than half a year in open beta. As of yesterday, the game is now officially offline, meaning no more online matches. In the meantime though, those who have the game installed can access all unlockable content and play the game's offline modes.
During our hiatus, all unlockable content will be temporarily available for your enjoyment. Once MultiVersus returns for the game's launch in 2024, your account inventory will return to how it was prior to June 25.

MultiVersus will re-launch in ‘early 2024' and at that time, player inventories will revert back to how they were before the servers went offline this week. That means any content you hadn't unlocked prior to the 25th of June will be locked again. When the game returns, it will have a new progression system in place and possibly a few new characters too.
While MultiVersus got off to a hot start, the game did start to drop off pretty quickly. The game peaked at 153,000 concurrent players 11 months ago, dropping to less than 1,000 monthly players through most of 2023. WB will need to try and recapture the excitement around the beta when the game returns, otherwise it may end up being dead on arrival.

KitGuru Says: MultiVersus going offline is extremely odd given how polished and monetised the ‘beta' was. The game is now offline, so we'll have to wait and see if it can have a successful relaunch next year.
