Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera is shutting down in September

With the launch of Modern Warfare II last year, Activision ushered in a new age for Call of Duty Warzone with Warzone 2.0. The original version of Warzone has remained online and playable since then, but that will be changing in September.

Activision has announced plans to shut down Call of Duty: Warzone Caldera. The name of the game was changed after the launch of Warzone 2.0, differentiating it from the new version by adding the name of Warzone 1.0's final map.

Warzone Caldera will shut down on the 21st of September. Some players may take issue with this, as Warzone 1.0 had multiple generations of Call of Duty cosmetic content that many players spent money on. Those older cosmetics didn't transfer over to Warzone 2.0. However, they will remain accessible in the multiplayer modes for Modern Warfare, Black Ops Cold War and Vanguard.

As for Warzone 2.0, that game will live on for the foreseeable future. Perhaps we'll see a Warzone 3.0 when the next console generation arrives but until then, hopefully Warzone 2.0 sticks around.
