Seagate FireCuda 540 details revealed through pre-order listing

Seagate is preparing to launch its first PCIe 5.0 NVMe SSD – the FireCuda 540. Details about the upcoming drive have surfaced online through various online retailers. Based on these findings, we expect at least two different models with up to 4TB of storage space.

The listings of the upcoming FireCuda 540 spotted by @momomo_us only included 1TB and 2TB models, but the pictures on Amazon UK's listing suggest that a 4TB version will be available. Besides the standard model, there will also be one with a swappable design, including a black heatsink made in partnership with EK and a white heatsink.

The FireCuda 540 SSDs are not expected to compete with the fastest PCIe 5.0 NVMe drives, as it is listed with sequential read/write speeds of up to 10GB/s. These apply to the 1TB and 2TB variants. The 1TB SKU is rated for 1,000 TB total bytes written (TBW), while the 2TB SKU doubles that to 2,000 TB. The 4TB SKU reportedly boasts a TBW of 3,940 TB, allowing for 90% of the drive to be erased every day for five years, according to Seagate.

Amazon UK has listed the 1TB SKU for £203.48, and £464.79 (3rd party) for the 2TB SKU. The 1TB heatsink variant is listed for £203.71, and the 2TB variant for £407.97. The exact launch date for the Seagate FireCuda 540 is unclear, but it is expected to be released soon.
