It has been a long time coming, but Apple have finally gotten around to releasing the white iPhone 4, 10 months after it was initially announced.
We really don't see the fuss over the white phone, but Apple fans seemingly love the cool, clean appearance. Apple has said that the manufacture of the white version has been ‘more challenging than we originally planned.' In the grand scheme of things, it seems bizarre than one of the richest companies on the planet has struggled so much with a white iPhone 4 release.
Phil Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of worldwide marketing said “The white iPhone has finally arrived and it’s beautiful. We appreciate everyone who has waited patiently while we’ve worked to get every detail right.”
While many people had expected the iPhone 5 to be released this June, the release of the white iPhone 4 would put those rumours to bed. It is very unlikely that Apple would release a new version of the iPhone after releasing a much wanted ‘white version' of the current product.
The problems with the white version of the iPhone 4 have been blamed on light leakage. Around the edges of the glass case, light from the phones display can be seen leaking. Analysts have said that the release of the white iPhone should help Apple boost sales by 1.5 million per quarter. A nice boost before the iPhone 5 is launched. Sometime.
Phil Schiller said “It was challenging. “It's not as simple as making something white. There's a lot more that goes into the material science of it — how it holds up over time… but also how it all works with the sensors.”
