Silverstone Raven 3 Chassis Review (SST-RV03B-W Retail)

Rating: 8.5.

I remember vividly when Silverstone released the Raven RV02. It has been one of the stand out products for me in the last decade, utilising the simple theory that ‘heat rises' as the foundation of the design. Until then I had been astonished that no chassis designer had built a case from the ground up with a pure focus on vertical airflow. Today we are looking at the third incarnation of the design, the RV03.

The RV03 follows the same cooling principles as before with a 90 degree motherboard mounting and a ‘straight up' air flow system. This time however there are two of the new Penetrator 180mm fans with support for up to a total of seven case fans.

Why so long with the review? We wanted to wait until retail versions of the Raven 03 were ready for review as pre-production models sent out to some press a while ago were not completely finished.

Special Features:

  • Revolutionary 90 degree motherboard mounting from RAVEN RV01
  • Includes two Air Penetrator 180mm fans for superb performance and quietness
  • Support up to seven 120mm fans for exceptional cooling flexibility
  • Motherboard back plate opening behind CPU area for quick cooler assembly
  • Supports Extended ATX motherboard
  • Supports eight expansion slots and graphics cards of any length
  • Mandatory cable management design for clean looking system on every build
  • Hard drive compartment with independent cooling zone
  • Upscale and aggressive styling with dual-purpose front panel bezels

  1. Well im glad they changed the spiky monster design from last year into this. I think its rather fetching.

  2. The fans are nice, the overall design isn’t ugly but I am not sure im sold on some of the internal designs. the PSU at the front from the side? its rather hard to get used to that.

  3. I like it, good airflow, like v2

  4. The gold stripe is a bit different, wasnt it blue originally

  5. I likethe routing arou d the back of the case but i dont like the looks at all.

  6. To me this seems like a bit of a mish mash of a case – nobody likes the racing stripes down the front and whilst it may look nicer in the flesh, very few people will get the chance to view it in person before purchasing.

I think if they had simply updated the superb Raven Evolution then they would have been on to a dead cert – I can see where they are coming from though because adding a 3 to the party probably attracts a lot more attention and therefor more sales.

If they do ever bring the Evo up to date with front intenal usb3.0 headers then I will be on it like a flash.
