In the latest in a series of high profile hacker attacks, popular Japanese games outfit Square Enix have had three of their sites hacked.
The hackers have stolen email address from 25,000 customers the company has admitted. As well, the CV's of 350 people looking for jobs in Square Enix's Canadian office may also have been compromised.
Square Enix are a highly respected game maker and have created award winning games such as Final Fantasy, Deus EX and Tomb Raider. They announced a statement which read “Square Enix can confirm a group of hackers gained access to parts of our Eidosmontreal.com website as well as two of our product sites.
“We immediately took the sites offline to assess how this had happened and what had been accessed, then took further measures to increase the security of these and all of our websites, before allowing the sites to go live again.”
Several of their sites had the message ‘owned by Chippy1337' daubed on the home page. No indications of who the hackers were, but it is the latest in a long list of security issues for many high profile companies.
