HTC Flyer will sell for £599 – priced too high?

HTC are launching a new 7 inch tablet in the UK, the HTC Flyer, set to target the Apple iPad 2 sales. At £599 it's one of the more expensive tablets on the market.

The Carphone Warehouse are already taking pre orders with 3G and Wifi at £599.99 and they will start shipping the units in early May. This price is pretty much what people expected, is it competitive enough to take stand in such a competitive market place?

The iPad 2 with 32GB, Wi-Fi and 3G is £579, which is £20 more than the iPad 2 with Wifi and 3G. It is also more expensive than the 3G version of the Motorola Xoom, which also has a larger screen, higher specifications and version 3.0 Android Honeycomb.

HTC have said that the Flyer will run an enhanced version of Android 2.4 ‘Gingerbread', which won't be a popular move with the enthusiast audience who want the latest V3.0.

The HTC Flyer is supplied with 1GB of memory, a 1.5GHZ processor, 32GB storage and a 1024×600 multi touch display. There is an SD slot available to expand storage by another 32GB if desired.

KitGuru says: It will have a tough time winning sales at this price, even if it is brilliant.

  1. Having watched some of the HTC presentaiton videos with their CEO and the other guy (cant rmbr his position) They seem to put an emphassis on the HTC Sense pitch.

The rain clouds on your phone/tablet in the background when its rainy day in real life is a nice touch but im not seeing the kind of ‘evolution’ (hinted at) that would warrant the price tag of the Flyer.

When the video came to the HTC Flyer bit. I certainly walked away with the impression that the presentation conveyed ‘something’ that was new but looking back i have no more information on precisely what that was…

There is no value. At least none that their letting on aboout….
