Among Us hit it BIG in 2020, with the social deduction game becoming one of the most viral titles of the year. While perhaps a little later than expected, an animated adaptation of the game has now been announced – and will be headed by the creator of the Cartoon Network show Infinity Train.
As reported by Variety, the studio behind Among Us – InnerSloth – has partnered with CBS Eye Animation Productions to adapt the viral video game into a TV show. Owen Dennis is serving as the creator and executive producer.
For the uninitiated, Dennis is known best for creating the much-loved Cartoon Network series Infinity Train, which during its 4 season tenure was praised for its complex themes and characters; writing; uniqueness; visual animation style; and voice acting.
Details on the adaptation are light at the moment, but a brief synopsis was released, describing the show as follows: “Members of your crew have been replaced by an alien shapeshifter intent on causing confusion, sabotaging the ship, and killing everyone. Root out the ‘Impostor’ or fall victim to its murderous designs.”
Animation takes a long time and so it makes sense that we have not seen an adaptation of Among Us yet. That said, it will be interesting to see whether the show is releasing too long after the game’s zeitgeist, or whether it will garner enough interest so many years after the game’s peak. We will have to wait and see.
