Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos plugins arrive for Unreal Engine

Dolby technologies are already supported in quite a few games, but that number should grow even higher over the next few years. Today, Dolby Laboratories is launching its plugins for Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for Unreal Engine.

The new plugins will enable developers to easily and conveniently integrate both Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos virtual surround sound in games.

Dolby Vision enables more vivid HDR in games, with up to 40 times brighter images and deeper blacks compared to standard picture modes. Dolby Vision also has minimal GPU frame time impact, coming in at less than 0.2ms. When connected to a display that supports Dolby Vision, no calibration is needed.

Dolby Atmos has been available on PC as a plugin for quite some time but now developers will be able to directly integrate it into games. It is one of the best virtual surround sound solutions I've tried personally. Dolby Atmos is supported across Android, Windows 10/11 and Xbox consoles.
