The New York Post is coming under attack with a recent decision to block Safari users on the Apple iPad. They are redirecting visitors to download the publications specialised application through the App Store – which is pay only.
Paid Content reported the findings at the weekend, saying that the New York Post have blocked all content to iPad users outside of the official application support. People trying to access the website in Safari are redirected to the App Store. In the past, the publication promoted the application but still allowed users to access the site.
People are getting around it by using a third party browser for the iPad. The page says “Thanks for coming. NYPost.com editorial content is now only accessible on the iPad through the New York Post App.”
To get access to the website, users have to pay either $79.99 a year for a subscription, of $6.99 a month. Other publications are set to follow the same plan system, with BloomBerg Businessweek already offering in-app subscriptions. They said that the iPad was “the most important place to be right now.”
