George Hotz, also known as hacker GeoHot will go down in history as the catalyst that started the attacks on Sony. His posting of the rootkey for the PlayStation 3, caused the wrath of Sony, who were out to get him in the most public manner possible.
Fast forward a little, and it appears that Hotz has got a job now working In Facebook. TechUnwrapped report that Joshua Hill, a member of the Chronic Dev Team group who are responsible for jailbreak software greenpois0n have said that Hotz has declined to find a bootrom exploit for the iPad 2. He apparently said he wanted to concentrate on his job at Facebook instead.
While there have been no official reports on Hotz and his job duties within the company, this would not be the first time that a company has hired a skilled underground hacker or code maker to join their team.
According to Gabe Rivera at TechMeme, Hotz posted on his Facebook wall a short while ago “Facebook is really an amazing place to work…first hackathon over.”
Sony stepped down their high profile counter attack on Hotz in April this year. It was settled out of court and no details were made public. Hotz has an active blog page, but he refused to be drawn into the details, as part of the deal was a permanent injunction.
“I’m happy to have the litigation behind me.” Hotz said a while ago.
Kitguru says: Clearly his new job makes use of his significant skill base, but as yet his daily duties for Facebook have yet to be detailed and perhaps they never will be.
Maybe they have him hacking google :p
