George Hotz claims no connection to PSN hack: ‘Im not crazy’

George Hotz, also known as ‘GeoHot', the famous hacker who exposed the Sony Playstation 3 root key has denied any involvement in the Sony Playstation Network breach.

The 21 year old hacker, well known for creating the first software based hack for the iPhone has said that he had nothing to do with the recent PSN ‘intrusion'. Hotz made a blog post and he said “Anyone who thinks I was involved in any way with this, I'm not crazy, and would prefer to not have the FBI knocking on my door. Running homebrew and exploring security on your devices is cool, hacking into someone else's server and stealing databases of user info is not cool. You make the hacking community look bad, even if it is aimed at douches like Sony.”

He is also keen to point out that Sony are a bunch of arrogant people by saying “Now until more information is revealed on the technicals, I can only speculate, but I bet Sony's arrogance and misunderstanding of ownership put them in this position. Sony execs probably haughtily chuckled at the idea of threat modeling. Traditionally the trust boundary for a web service exists between the server and the client. But Sony believes they own the client too, so if they just put a trust boundary between the consumer and the client(can't trust those pesky consumers), everything is good. ”

High profile hacker: George Hotz (GeoHot)

He claims he was originally planning a homebrew alternative to PSN and jokes that if Sony hadn't stopped him, then some Playstation 3 owners would have a place to game online right now.

He ends his blog by offering advice to the potential hacker of the PSN network. “To the perpetrator, two things. You are clearly talented and will have plenty of money (or a jail sentence and bankruptcy) coming to you in the future. Don't be a dick and sell people's information.”

KitGuru says: Hotz has no involvement, but who did the hacking? We will probably never know.

  1. Whoever hacked Sony has some serious skills, thats for sure. I doubt Hotz could have done it anyway. hacking a phone and a company wide sony network are too very different things

  2. I think this dude geohot didnt do anythign wrong, sony deserve what they got.

  3. Whomever did the hacking job on Sony has some major talent. I’m pretty sure that it wasn’t George but Sony definitely got what was coming to them. Anonymous threatened that this would happen and it was delivered through some venue a few different times now. Maybe Sony will learn that people own their products not them.

  4. JOE shut the fuck up bitch
