Skype for iPad hits App store, but is removed

A wide audience was happy when Skype released their software for the iPad earlier this week. Strangely the company have already removed it from the store.

The ever popular chat application was sure to be heavily downloaded by iPad users, but only a short while after releasing it the company decided to take it down.

Their Twitter feed said “To ensure your best Skype experience, we've temporarily removed Skype for iPad which went live prematurely today.”

The use of the word ‘prematurely' would suggest there were problems with the code on some level and that it was only found out after release.

3 hours ago the company followed up with a public apology saying “We know you've been eagerly awaiting Skype for iPad and apologize for the inconvenience.”

The latest version was using an ‘HD' interface, using the whole area of the screen display, rather than iPhone dimensions, which could be boosted to size manually, with quality reduction.

The iPad version would allow for instant messaging while involved in a video chat. Richard Lawler, who works for Engadget said that the application felt like a “a souped-up version of the iPhone release.”

Kitguru says: We would expect the application to be re-released soon, with some code changes to fix the unknown problems.
