No one will be sorry to hear that Sanford Wallace, a self entitled ‘spam king' has surrendered himself to the FBI after being accused of breaking into Facebook accounts to send 27 million spam related emails via the social networking system.
The 43 year old man has been indicted by a grand jury in San Jose, California on three counts of intentional damage to a protected computer and two counts of criminal contempt. Wallace is claimed to have hacked into 500,000 Facebook accounts during three different attacks between November 2008 and March 2009.
If Wallace is convicted of all the charges he could spend 40 years in jail with fines up to $2 million. Wallace was ordered in 2009, not to access Facebook, but apparently he did on a flight from Las Vegas to New York in April 2009.
A US District Court Judge Jeremy Fogel awarded $711 million to Facebook against Wallace in October 2009 for violating the Can Spam Act.
Due to his continued actions over the years and as the head of CyberPromotions, Wallace is known as ‘SpamFord' and ‘Spam King'. His company CyberPromotions sent out over 30 million spam emails every day during the 1990s.
