Asus to release new Padfone – phone/tablet hybrid

Last week, we reported on a new upcoming Asus product which combines both tablet and smartphone functionality. Insider information has leaked which indicate that Asus will be calling the product the ‘Padfone' – a rather cool concept of merging both sectors into a single design.

Pocketnow have released some pictures of the product, and you can see them over here.

The phone element can be removed, and then docked inside the Pad when the two are connected. As yet there are no details on exactly how this will work but information highlights that they are working with former hardware partner Garmin on a licensing basis.

There are two color systems being released, one copper and the other black. The camera lens should peak through a hole in the cover which protects the phone. A USB port can be seen and a proprietary connector.

Hardware inside is said to be based around the Nvidia Tegra 2 with 1GB of ram, 16GB or 32GB of storage, Wi-Fi, HDMI out and optional 3G.

KitGuru says: A big seller? it certainly looks to be different enough to warrant attention.
