Apple iOS 5.0.1. update improves battery life

Apple have had to deal with reports that their iPhone 4S has suffered from poor battery life. Kitguru reported on this before and it was apparently tied down to a bug in iOS. Apple said they would be working on a fix.

Apple issued a statement to All Things D a short while ago which read “A small number of customers have reported lower than expected battery life on iOS 5 devices. We have found a few bugs that are affecting battery life and we will release a software update to address those in a few weeks.”

The update has just arrived with the release of 5.0.1. which will be received the next time you sync the device with iTunes. It weighs in at 790MB and claims to fix the battery life issues plaguing the new smartphone release.

According to an article published on Wired, the update is ‘nothing short of amazing'. ““Frankly the difference is nothing short of amazing,” said Wired reader Donald Kuntzman, who downloaded the update on his Verizon iPhone 4. “To go almost an entire day without a change in the meter reading seems unbelievable. Where before I could almost watch the battery drain, now it doesn’t move at all.”

Kuntzman noticed that the battery life on his iPhone degraded after the iOS 5 upgrade. He needed to charge his phone once a day, and always worried it would die before he had a chance to recharge it. He could practically “watch the battery drain,” but since the update, his battery level doesn’t seem to drop at all.”

Other reports have hit the net with users claiming the fix does indeed work, good news for Apple users then.

Kitguru says: Have you applied the update? Does it work as well as people are saying?
