The Monster Hunter series ballooned to great success following the release of the highly popular Monster Hunter World, with it having sold over 18 million copies since its launch in 2018. That being said, its sequel, Monster Hunter Rise, is well on its way to match this achievement, with the game having sold over 13 million copies in the past two years.
Making the announcement on Twitter, the official Monster Hunter page said “Monster Hunter Rise has now sold over 13 million units, with #Sunbreak achieving more than 6 million units worldwide too! To our global community, thank you. Your amazing support and passion for Monster Hunter is felt by everyone on the team! Happy hunting!!”
13 million copies sold safely puts Monster Hunter Rise as the second-best selling Capcom game of all time – only behind the aforementioned Monster Hunter World and its 18.8 million copies. Rounding out the top three is 2017’s Resident Evil 7 Biohazard with exactly 12 million copies sold.
It is somewhat tough to directly compare the sales success of Monster Hunter World and Rise, as the latter saw a much more staggered launch – while the former technically came to fewer platforms. Regardless it is interesting to see that Monster Hunter is quickly becoming Capcom’s premiere franchise – at least sales wise.
