Details for PS5 exclusive ‘Rise of the Ronin’ leak

Back in September of last year during a State of Play, Sony announced Rise of the Ronin – a combat focused open-world action RPG taking place at the end of the 300 year-long Edo Period (set in the 19th century). Developed by Team Ninja of Nioh fame, the game has now leaked, revealing a bunch of gameplay details.

First leaked via Discord with in-game screenshots as proof (and then published to Reddit’s GamingLeaksAndRumours community), a number of gameplay details have been shared for the upcoming action-RPG Rise of the Ronin.

According to the leak, the game is a mix of Assassin’s Creed, Ghost of Tsushima and Dark Souls. Speaking of Dark Souls, Rise of the Ronin will feature heavy lore details in its item descriptions such as “It was produced in the craftsmanship style associated with a renowned blacksmith named Okisato Nagasone, who lived in Musashi during the 17th century and was also known as Kotetsu…”

Unlike Dark Souls however, the game will feature multiple difficulty options, allowing for greater accessibility. The Assassin’s Creed influence meanwhile comes in the form of “numerous side-quests” which are said to be Ubisoft-like in their design.

Other miscellaneous details include the fact that Rise of the Ronin will feature romance options; a skill and technique tree; and last but certainly not least multiple performance options. The leaker also claims that the game is planned for release in Q1 2024 – though of course things can change between now and then.

What little we have seen from Rise of the Ronin looks exciting. Getting to hear more details on the game – and the fact that it is supposedly less than a year away – lends hope to the idea that we will get another official look at the game sooner rather than later.

KitGuru Games: Omni-movement culminates 30 years of FPS innovation

Black Ops 6 is officially here, bringing the innovative new Omni-movement system to the game. While on the surface a relatively simple change, I argue that Treyarch intimately studied DOOM and the past 30 years of first-person shooter evolution to craft one of the most satisfying gameplay systems yet.
