Mango update ready for Windows Phone

Microsoft will be rolling out ‘Mango' very shortly, the new update for the Windows Phone software. Reports suggest that this should be ready and available to customers within 2 weeks.

Microsoft have been on time with this release, as they suggested an October release months ago when it was announced.

Brandon Watson, from Microsoft tweeted that they were ready to rock, right on time. Mango is a big step for Microsoft and it has much stronger language support for a wider audience.

Eric Hautala, another Microsoft employee gave his views on the subject in a blog post yesterday.

“For months, we and dozens of our partner companies have been laying the groundwork for the Windows Phone 7.5 update—and making solid progress. As a result, we now expect to start rolling it out in the next week or two. At that time, we’ll also refresh the Where’s My Phone Update? table to reflect the worldwide rollout status.”

He urged people not to be trying leaked or unoffical copies of the operating system patch:

“This also seems like a good time to caution against installing unofficial or leaked copies of Windows Phone software.

During the official Windows Phone 7.5 update process, every Windows Phone will also receive software from the handset manufacturer. This matched and paired firmware has been painstakingly tuned so your phone—and apps—work with all the new features of Windows Phone 7.5. Since your phone requires the proper firmware to function as designed, my advice is simple: steer clear of bootleg updates and homebrew tools.”

The update might inject a little interest into the platform, which has been floundering since it was released. It has grabbed just over a single percentage in the marketshare. When compared directly against Android growth it is a very poor showing.
