Dell have announced a partnership with Baidu, a company best known for their search engine based in China. Baidu are launching a new operating system called ‘Yi'. It is apparently based around Android and Baidu and will have its own maps and other services including cloud storage, cloud backup and ebook support. According to reports there will also be a custom SDK and app store for the platform.
Custom, modified builds of Android are commonplace in China however the new operating system Yi is set to have a lot of development backing behind it. Reuters announced today that Dell are a partner for building tablets and handsets for Baidu and it would appear that Dell will also support them with upcoming Yi devices.
According to local sources, who are unnamed at thisismynext.com the devices might be released before the end of the year.
