Cedar Trail not to have DX10 support

Intel have launched a couple of new Cedar Trail processors this week, these are CedarView D core for ultra low voltage implementations. The Atom D2500 and D2700 are dual core models. According to reports the datasheet and S-spec update documents show that two new CedarView-M N2600 and N2800 processors are due to launch soon.

The N2600 runs at 1.6ghz with integrated GMA 3600 graphics clocked at 400mhz. The Atom N2800 is clocked a little faster, at 1.86ghz and it features GMA 3650 graphics, which operates at 640mhz. These demand 3.5 watts and 6.5 watts respectively. No release date has been issued for these, but reports indicate a launch in the next 30-40 days.

CPU World have added “Cedar Trail platform includes several enhancements, such as better 32nm technology, beefed up graphics, lower power consumption, support for DDR3 memory with higher data rates, and others. One of new new features of CedarView-D and CedarView-M CPUs was supposed to be support for DirectX 10.1. Here is a scoop of what we learned about current state of Windows 7 graphics drivers:

  • Cedar Trail processors currently use DirectX 9 (beta) Windows 7 graphics drivers.
  • The final (non-beta) version of DirectX 9 drivers for 32-bit Windows 7 will be available in November.
  • The final (non-beta) version of DirectX 9 drivers for 64-bit Windows 7 is going to be ready in December.
  • DirectX 10 version of these drivers will not be released at all.

The launch of the new Intel Core Ultra 200S family of CPUs along with Z890 motherboards was a thorny process. KitGuru suffered along with pretty much every other review site on the planet and you may have noticed we held off from reviewing of the Core Ultra 9 285K, Core Ultra 7 265K and Core Ultra 5 245K as it is clear to us that Intel has some work to do before this platform is ready for action.
