Gamestop to release gaming tablet, with dedicated controller

GameStop are releasing a new tablet, powered by Android which will launch with a series of games already installed.

The US retailer spoke to gameindustry.biz and said that Android was the logical choice being the ‘GameStop certified gaming platform'.

President Tony Bartel told gameindustry.biz “I don't see any need to create a new one with the three hundred or so on the market already, We have a refurbishment centre and we can bring in the product and preload certain games onto it. It's an Android device.”

It looks as if GameStop are putting some research and development time into selecting the right tablet for their customers – with tests on the hardware already two weeks in development.

“We definitely have selected one, We're in test phase right now. But we're excited at the prospect of coming out with this tablet. I would call it a ‘GameStop certified gaming platform.' We looked at all the tablets and these are the ones that really worked for gaming and we're going to give you a few benefits that you're not going to get elsewhere.”

According to the report, Gamestop are going to be streaming console games to the device and will even ship a dedicated gaming controller with the tablet for an improved gaming experience.

  1. Doesnt using a controller defeat the purpose of a tablet though?
