Mango Phone update released by Microsoft

Microsoft have released the latest version of Windows 7 Phone operating system. Version 7.5 (Mango) features calender integration and an enhanced social network contact system. There are also performance improvements, including multitasking enhancements. With 500 new features it is a rather large update for the company.

This update is free of charge to current customers and hits just as the latest marketplace for apps has been launched allowing users to buy from their PC as well as mobile devices. Apple users already have a similar system in place for a while now, for the OSx platform.

One of the most important updates will be the improved access for Office, including support for multiple inboxes. Many people are amazed that Microsoft didn't support this initially, but it has finally been fixed. Web browsing speeds are improved, as well as an overhaul of the search engine system, with more options at hand.

The update may help boost interest in the flagging platform which was released a year ago to very mixed critical reviews. HTC have spoken out already saying that new devices will mount a serious challenge to rival systems from Google and Apple.

Some leading analysts in the industry aren't so sure it will transform their position in the marketplace. Tony Cripps spoke to the Telegraph in the UK and said “Mango will provide a worthwhile upgrade for both existing and new users of Windows Phone devices once it arrives in the autumn. However, Microsoft needs to do better if it is to persuade the market that it has the most user friendly – and desirable – mobile platform in the market today.”

Kitguru says: Will the update change people's opinion of the Microsoft platform?
