iOS dominates US market thanks to iPad

The battle between Apple and Google has reached fever pitch this year, with iOS and Android battling it out across a range of smartphones and tablets. According to the latest Comscore reports Apple are still holding the percentage of the US market at 43.1%.

Google will be pleased however, because according to the statistics, they are running away with the smartphone market, claiming 43.7 percent. Sales of the Apple iPad have more than redressed the imbalance, selling 30 million units since April 2010. It accounts for a staggering 97.2 percent of tablet traffic in August alone. When the iPhone is combined with the iPad, then sales and marketshare swing back in favour of Apple.

Amazon Kindle Fire tablet: Let us hope the UK doesn't get shafted with the price conversion

Apple claim 43.1 percent of the market when smartphones and tablets are combined, compared against 34.1 percent for Google's Android. We were also surprised to read that the iPad is actually taking a higher share of internet traffic than the iPhones.

Sadly, Android tablet and phone makers don't just have Apple to compete against, they are fighting each other for market share and the Android platform is very competitive right now.

We are waiting on Amazon's Kindle Fire tablet to hit retail, because it offers a lot for very little money. This low cost 7 inch tablet should help drive overall Android sales and position Amazon firmly as a top tier player. Amazon are already saying that the Fire is top of their ‘most wished for' list.

Kitguru says: Kindle fire only $199 in the US, but let us hope it makes it for under £150 in UK.
