Intel 14th Gen Core desktop processors rumoured to release in October

Intel typically makes new desktop processors available in around October/November. That tradition will continue this year with the upcoming Intel 14th Gen Core processors, which are expected to become available in mid-October.

With the 14th Gen Core series, we are expecting to see a refresh of the Raptor Lake CPU lineup with higher clock speeds. According to a report from ECSM (via VideoCardz), the launch schedule for the refreshed CPUs will follow the usual pattern of splitting Core-K and non-K models. The non-K models are expected to be released in the first week of 2024, while K models will be available starting in October, the report suggests a date between October 17th and the 23rd.

As these processors will still use the Raptor Lake architecture, they should be compatible with all existing LGA1700 motherboards that have the latest BIOS, with the possible exception of the Core i7-14700K processor. That's because the CPU is said to feature a core configuration that has never been seen on any other Intel CPU. As per the rumours, the upcoming processor will pack 8 P-cores and 12 E-cores. If so, it might require new firmware to run on older LGA1700-based boards.

ECSM also mentions the next-generation desktop platform called Arrow Lake. With Arrow Lake, Intel will introduce new chipset designs and a different socket in late 2024/early 2025.
