The Apple iPhone 4S battery life has been the topic of conversation since it was released and we reported that many customers were complaining about excessive drain. Apple have acknowledged a problem with the location services system in OS 5 and have released a beta version of iOS 5.0.1 to fix the problem.
PCWorld have put a lot of the major phones in a head to head, to analyse if the iPhone 4S battery is as bad as many people are claiming. Surprisingly it comes out third in their test, achieving a 6 hour 14 minute battery result, behind the T-Mobile MyTouch 4G Slide at 6 hours 33 minutes and the Samsung Epic Touch 4G at 7 hours and 22 minutes. At the bottom of the chart is the HTC Sensation 4G with 4 hours and 22 minutes and the Motorola Triumph at 4 hours and 14 minutes.
They tested by playing a 720p video file at maximum brightness with audio set a volume level loud enough to be heard in an office setting. WiFi is enabled.
The results actually confirm that the iPhone 4S battery life is close to class leading and when Apple apply the software fix for the drain issues, it looks to be a good main choice for a new smartphone.

It does raise a point however, and one that has been irking me now for a long time. Battery technology is lagging way behind the hardware.
