Are Facebook planning a new Phone: codename ‘Buffy’?

If you follow the mobile sector regularly, you might already be aware of the HTC Status and HTC Salsa which were launched earlier this year. According to All Things Digital they have received information that Facebook themselves might be planning a new phone with a code name of ‘Buffy'.

All Things Digital are reporting that “the phone is planned to run on a modified version of Android that Facebook has tweaked heavily to deeply integrate its services.”

A tweaked Android operating system is the defacto choice now and it makes sense. The manufacturer of the phone is said to be HTC for the design of the final product, although rumours leaked that they may have considered working with Samsung for the device. No information was released as to why they changed companies.

Facebook were asked if the rumours were true and they wouldn't comment directly. They did issue a somewhat generic statement which read “Our mobile strategy is simple: We think every mobile device is better if it is deeply social. We’re working across the entire mobile industry; with operators, hardware manufacturers, OS providers, and application developers to bring powerful social experiences to more people around the world.”

HTC have also failed to comment, which isn't really much of a shock.

Kitguru says: Will this new phone be something you want to have?

  1. Mobile marketing through text is essential to small and huge businesses alike. But local businesses seem to take away more from this so-called “marketing SMS” technique especially since their targeted audience are people within their locality.
