Sony try to appease customers after Vita launch complaints

Sony launched their Vita handheld console in Japan recently, but faced some technical issues, releasing an over the air patch quickly to counter the problems. They issued a statement, apologising to customers who were affected by the hardware stability problems.

They said “Currently, our information centre regarding PlayStation Vita as well as our usual customer service centre are receiving many enquiries. We apologise if your phone isn't connected straight away. Some issues regarding PlayStation Vita can be addressed by simple procedures at home.” They then list a series of questions and answers addressing some concerns.

Over 300,000 consoles were sold in the space of two days, marking a very successful launch indeed – although it is less than the 371,000 Nintendo sales of the 3DS, in the opening weekend last February. The shine however was quickly marred by reports of consoles hard locking and rebooting randomly. Sony were quick to release a firmware update to try and keep customers happy.

The launch issues may put off some people, but when we look back at the Xbox 360 and the staggering list of problems it experienced over the years, it doesn't always negatively cause huge sales issues for the company involved.

Sony are trying to avoid the hardware problems, focusing more on the sales figures and David Wilson, head of PR for UK Sony Computer Entertainment said “We are incredibly pleased with the success of the Japanese launch of PlayStation Vita in which all pre-orders were immediately sold out and that enthusiasm has continued since launch with sales well on track. We are confident we will continue to accelerate the momentum as we approach the European launch on February 22nd”
