Armed teenagers rob Apple store, shots fired at taxi driver

On the morning of the 3rd of January, six teenagers decided to try an armed robbery of an Apple store in Scottsdale Quarter. They smashed the glass at the front and stole between $70,000 – $80,000 of Apple hardware. The theft happened before normal working hours, so the store was deserted. A local cab driver however followed their vehicle, resulting in the teenagers opening fire on the taxi driver.

The cab driver was fortunately uninjured in the chase but the police caught three of the thieves a few streets down from the cab driver. A 19, 18 and 17 year old were arrested on suspicion of being involved in the heist. Some of the stolen Apple goods have since been recovered but three people involved have so far escaped.

CultOfMac reported on this, and author Buster Heine said “The funny thing about this heist is that I go to lunch 2-3 times a week at restaurants surrounding this same Apple store, and there is a nice jewelry store right across the street. Diamonds would be tremendously easier to carry than an iMac and quicker to steal – although I’m sure iPods, iMacs, and iPads are a lot easier to sell on Craigslist.”

  1. I am surprised Apple dont have plate protection on the stores outside business hours.

  2. Taxi driver was lucky not to get hit. I take it he reported their rough position to the cops?
