Asus are highly regarded for the quality of their motherboards worldwide and are claiming to have gained a 70% marketshare for models equipped with the Intel X79 Express chipset. Their report also shows that their Z68 and P677 series motherboards have reached a global market share of 50-60%.
According to reports they will start shipping motherboards to support Intel's Ivy Bridge in late February. They shipped a total of 23.5 million motherboards in 2011 and are targeting sales of 25 million units this year.
Digitimes add “As for tablet PCs, Asustek will upgrade operating systems of all Android models to Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) on January 12, 2012, the company indicated. At the 2012 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas during January 10-13, Asustek will showcase 10-inch full HD Eee Pad Transformer priced at US$499-599, 3G MIMO and Wi-Fi MIMO priced at US$399-499 and US$299-349 respectively, the company pointed out. In addition, Asustek will unveil 10-inch Padfone at the 2012 Mobile World Congress to take place in Barcelona during February 27-March 1, the company noted.
Along with Microsoft's launch of Windows 8 in late third quarter of 2012, Asustek will launch Windows 8 tablet PC models based on Intel Clover Trail-W platform and ARM platform for at least US$599 and US$459, respectively, in the fourth quarter of 2012, the company indicated.
Asustek will expand its software R&D staff for Android from 300 members currently to 400 and maintain a team of 150 for Windows for the time being and then expand it after the launch of Windows 8, Asustek said.”
