Starfield will be a ‘Play Anywhere’ title, so one copy will get you access on PC and Xbox

Years ago when Microsoft began improving its PC gaming efforts, we saw the Play Anywhere initiative launched, with participating games in the Play Anywhere program allowing users to buy one copy of a game across both Xbox and PC. It has been a while since we've seen Play Anywhere in headlines, but it returns this week with news that Starfield will be a Play Anywhere title.

If you are a multi-system gamer with an Xbox and PC, you'll only have to buy one digital copy of Starfield and you'll unlock it on both Xbox consoles and Windows PCs, although the game will be limited to the Windows Store version – you can't claim a Steam copy of a game through Play Anywhere.

Of course, the game will also be a day-one addition to Game Pass and if you have a Game Pass Ultimate subscription, you'll also be able to access the game on Xbox and PC with any cross-platform functionality in place.

Starfield is officially due to release on the 6th of September, but those picking up the Deluxe Edition will get five days of early access beginning on September 1st. Bethesda recently shared a trio of new shorts, giving us insight into some of the key cities in the Starfield universe.
