We reported a while ago on the company who were creating a lifelike doll of the late Apple leader Steve Jobs. When Apple got wind of the project, they threatened legal action against the company. As we expected, Apple have managed to get the doll pulled from sale, even though a few of them leaked into ebay auctions.
In Icons posted a message on their website saying that they have removed the doll from sale after ‘immense pressure from the lawyers at Apple and Steve Jobs family.”
They continued “Though we still believe that we have not overstepped any legal boundaries, we have decided to completely stop the offer, production and sale of the Steve Jobs figurine out of our heartfelt sensitivity to the feelings of the Jobs family. We understand that this decision will cause many of the fans' disappointment, but please forgive us as there is no other alternative unless to have the blessing from Steve Jobs family.
People who preordered the doll online are being given a full refund. The 12 inch doll looked extremely lifelike and if managed to grab one on ebay you can sure that it will quickly become a collectors item. The pricing of the doll was $99, although a few sold on Ebay for $135.
We aren't sure how big the demand was for such a doll, but some people have suggested that Apple could have bought the project for the company and sold the doll through official channels, raising money for Cancer Research charities.
Kitguru says: Were Apple right to get this doll removed, or were In Icons just celebrating the life of an iconic figurehead?
