Thunderbolt technology still expensive, but PC makers will adopt in Q2

So far Apple have been spearheading Intel's new, exciting Thunderbolt technology. Although we noticed a proprietary connector using the same technology on our recent review of the Sony Z Series superportable computer.

The latest news is that Asus, Lenovo and Acer are planning to release ultrabooks in Q2 with Thunderbolt enabled motherboards. Thunderbolt technology can raise the prices of the overall machines by up to $30, so it will probably be limited to the higher cost notebook and desktop machines released later this year.

Intel Thunderbolt - led to market by Apple

Thunderbolt technology offers a lot more than just another data based connector. It can handle a dual transmission based around PCI Express for data and DisplayPort for image display. This will allow users to use only a single port for multiple device interaction.

Kitguru says: One of the more interesting technologies released in recent years.
