The Earth is due to be bombarded by one of the strongest solar radiation storms in recent years, which could damage power grids and satellites.
This ‘coronal mass ejection', which is a violent release of magnetic fields and plasma from the Sun, is heading towards the Earth at the speed of 4 million miles per hour, and will hit around 9am New York Time, according to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration.
The last time a storm this strong hit the Earth was in 2005. The Storm will cause a geomagnetic storm which could reach G3 level (strong ranking). There is no need to panic however, because while some power grids and satellites could be effected, there will be little damage elsewhere.
Kitguru says: More reports on this later, after it hits.
