Trading in the shares of memory giant Micron, was suspended this afternoon following the shocking news that a small plane being piloted by Steve Appleton, Micron CEO, had crashed in Boise Idaho.
Appleton’s early career got a kick-start when he won a tennis sponsorship to Boise State University.
Alongside a fast moving career in the tech sector, Appleton was addicted to high speed sports and he had a lucky escape when flying an aerobatic plane back in 2004.
He walked out of hospital after only one day on that occasion.
When his Lancair experimental plane took off at 8:46am today, Appleton believed something was wrong. He landed almost immediately and returned to the hanger. But after just 8 minutes on the ground he was taking off again and, this time, ran into serious trouble shortly after take off. His plane appeared to stop, bank severely and then plummet to the ground.
Against a very tough economic background, Micron had recently banked revenues of nearly $9 Billion under Appleton's expert guidance.
The tragedy is likely to have many impacts, not least of which will be the sales performance of Ryan Isaac, who has just joined Lancair to run regional sales.
