Some manufacturers are considering a budget tablet computer aimed at emerging markets. While the Apple iPad runs amok in the high end, many people can't afford the flagship computer. This has left the market open for a variety of manufacturers who are planning tablet computers for audiences in India, Brazil, China and Indonesia. One of my Taiwanese contacts close to ACER has confirmed that plans are going ahead later this year.
Apple have yet to announce any plans for a low cost iPad machine to target a different audience, and already Amazon have found a sales gap in the market, with their competitively priced Amazon Fire tablet.
Kitguru says: Apple have an opportunity to release a low cost iPad, but don't like entering ‘budget' sectors as it could be seen as lowering the value of their brand name.
