In a recent research poll done by Nielsen they have revealed that many consumers wish to use their mobile phones as credit cards. A massive 71% of all application downloaders are intereseted in an application that would allow them to use their smartphone as a credit card. It was also revealed while there is a lot of interest, only 9% of people have paid for a good or service at the point of sale in the last month.
Breaking it down into individual groups, iOS users are more interested in this possibility with 39% showing higher interest in an application capable of this purpose. This is a bit higher than Android users, 30% of them are extremely or very interested in having a Visa card on them without the need for an extremely thin piece of plastic.
The study also revealed how shoppers are using their smartphones for shopping-related activities. The dominant activities were comparing prices while in-store and browsing products online or through applications, nearly 2 in 5 people had partaken in both of these activities in the last 30 days.
Meanwhile just under one in three people had browsed Kitguru (or other technology sites) to read some awesome reviews on their phones in the last 30 days.
Kitguru says: Mobile payments are likely to become a big thing in technology this year, we'll be sure to watch this space.
