Earlier today HTC kicked off Mobile World Congress by announcing its new HTC One series of Android smartphones. The new series marks a new era for HTC and also brings about a new naming scheme. The three phones announced today are the flagship One X, mid-range One S and the lower end One V.
All of the HTC One phones will recieve 25 GB of Dropbox storage free for 2 years. There is deep Dropbox integration within HTC's Sense 4.0 skin.
HTC One X
The One X is HTC's new flagship smartphone and comes complete with a 4.7 inch 720p Super LCD II display. Keeping things running smooth is a Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and 1 GB of RAM. For storage addicts there is a nice 32 GB of eMMC internal storage but excludes a MicroSD slot. NFC and Bluetooth 4.0 are also supported.
The 8 MP camera is a vast improvement as you will be able “to take nearly unlimited continuous shots simply by holding the shutter button,” there will also be a 1.3 MP front facing camera.
There will be HSPA+ and LTE versions of the One X but LTE versions will have Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 MSM8960 chipset with integrated LTE rather than the Tegra chipset. This LTE version will be known as the HTC One XL.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be present on the One X will HTC Sense 4.0 layered (not too heavily) over the top.
HTC One S
This upper-mid range phone forgoes some processing power and screen size, bringing in a Snapdragon S4 MSM8260A dual-core chipset and a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED display. There will be 1 GB of RAM, 16 GB of internal storage and it is unclear whether there is a MicroSD slot or not.
The HTC One S maintains the same rear camera sensor as the One X while the front facing camera gets a downgraded to a VGA resolution.
It will also be HTC's thinnest phone to date at just 7.9mm thin. Like the One X, it will be running Android 4.0 with the Sense UI over the top.
HTC One V
The last of the three phones announced today is the lower-end One V with a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon S2 chipset. This chipset is backed up by 512 MB of RAM and a mere 4 GB of internal storage presumably with a MicroSD slot. The 3.7 inch display has a resolution of 480×800 (WVGA) and is of the Super LCD variety.
The One V mimics the old HTC Legend that was launched a couple of years ago while maintaining a “simple unibody design [that] exudes the craftsmanship and quality that HTC is known for.” It will also run Android 4.0 with HTC's latest version of its custom skin, Sense 4.0.
The HTC One series will begin shipping globally in April; pricing is not known as this stage.
Kitguru says: Assuming the price is right these are easily the best HTC phones we have seen in at least a year.
