Over the years Xbox has amassed a good number of recognisable names and faces within the company’s upper levels, including the likes of Phil Spencer, Matt Booty and Sarah Bond – to name a few. Among these, one of the most user-facing employees is Larry Hryb AKA Major Nelson. After more than 20 years at the company, Hryb is now leaving Xbox,
Making the announcement on LinkedIn, Larry Hryb said “After 20 incredible years, I will be leaving Xbox. As I step back and work on the next chapter of my career, I want to want to (sic) thank the millions of gamers around the world who have included me as part of their lives.”
He continued, “Thanks to Xbox team members for trusting me to have a direct dialogue with our customers. The future is bright for Xbox and as a gamer, I am excited to see the evolution. In the meantime, I am going to soak up the glorious Seattle Summer with my family while I think about what is next.”
Major Nelson was one of the most prominent user-facing Xbox employees, serving as Senior Director for Corporate Communications for over 10 years. The official Xbox podcast – which was hosted by Nelson – will be taking a short break over the Summer before returning in a “new format.”
Major Nelson’s departure will leave a not-so-insignificant hole in Xbox’s operations. Hopefully we hear news of his successor soon.
