BMW recall 1.3 million cars due to battery malfunctions

BMW are recalling around 1.3 million cars worldwide as a result of battery malfunctions which they say in extreme cases could cause fire.

The company issued a statement which said that the battery cable cover inside the trunk may be mounted incorrectly. The problem may cause malfunctions including the ability to start the vehicle and in special circumstances ‘potential smouldering and fire'. BMW were quick to add that they have no recorded accidents or injuries resulting from this flaw.

BMW have said that all BMW 5 and 6 series cars built from 2003 to 2010 are being recalled. Owners should get in touch with the BMW partner and make an appointment to get the battery cable cover fixed. The fix should take around half an hour and customers won't be charged.

Kitguru says: If you own one, be sure to get the car fixed, just in case.
