Apple launched the iPad 3 on Friday and sales figures in last night are very healthy indeed. Apple sent out a press release yesterday and have confirmed that they have sold 3 million iPad's so far.
“The new iPad is a blockbuster with three million sold―the strongest iPad launch yet,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Customers are loving the incredible new features of iPad, including the stunning Retina display, and we can’t wait to get it into the hands of even more customers around the world this Friday.”
When we look back in time to the original launch, Apple sold 1 million iPad's in 28 days after the device went on sale in April 2010. 3 million iPads were sold in 80 days.
Fast forward to 2012 for the iPad launch, and Apple have sold 3 million in just four days. This time however Apple launched the iPad3 worldwide, rather than the USA first which has been a positive move to drive additional sales.
On Friday 23rd the iPad 3 will launch in Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Macau, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain and Sweden.
Kitguru says: The iPhone 4S still holds the sales record however, selling 4 million units in 3 days in October 2011. Apple have reported sales of 37 million units in the last quarter alone.
