Another month passes by and that means one thing for fans of Android statistics; some more numbers on the amount of people running the latest Android 4.o update. If you haven't received your Android 4.0 update just yet, do not worry too much. If you have a relatively recently mid to high-end Android you can likely expect the update to reach you at some stage.
Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich first registered in the charts in January, where it accounted for just 0.6% of Android users. This percentage is now up to a much more respectable 2.9%, up from 1.6% last month. A growth rate of 80% in one month is pretty impressive, so it must mean that larger numbers of people are starting to see updates roll through.
Not to forget the other major Android platforms, the tablet-optimised Android 3.x sits at 3.3%, a number that should be eclipsed by Android 4.0 within the next month. Android 2.3 Gingerbread is still growing in popularity, slowly. It is up to 63.7%, from 62% last month. Hopefully this number will start to drop off next month just like Android 2.1 Eclair and 2.2 Froyo are already experiencing.
Kitguru says: I still wish Google would release the Android source code to manufacturers before they announce the update.
