Sony's Playstation Network is going to be down for 13 hours today. The routine scheduled maintenance begins at 6.00 am PDT/9.00 am EDT, lasting roughly 13 hours. Sony claim the network will be back and running by 7.00 pm PDT / 10.00 pm EDT.
If you need to use the facilities be aware that it will effect the Playstation Home service, The Playstation Store, Account management and will stop gaming online. Sony have said they will let people know via their Twitter feed when it is back online.
Sony also said that PSN enabled websites will not be running properly, including the Playstation.com website.
Sony have been facing negative feedback from customers, due to the ongoing interruptions with the Playstation Network for the last year. Matthew Harper, part of the ‘recently-formed PlayStation Digital Platforms Community Management team' couldn't give much more information as to why the 13 hours was needed today. Interestingly, this specific team was founded to explain to users about the inner workings of the Playstation Network.
Harper said “We absolutely understand that the community wants more information than we've been able to provide in this post. Part of my job is to make sure that the lines of communication are open between our users and PlayStation. While I don't have more details to share at this time regarding the downtime, I will certainly work to include more info in future posts.”
Some users have been vocal in responding to the statement of downtime. One said “I continue to be amazed at how shockingly poorly you guys handle ‘scheduled maintenance'. As an Exchange Admin myself I'd love to see the look on my customer's faces when I tell them we are taking email offline for 13 hours at a time every few weeks. Completely unacceptable. Step your game up Sony.”
Kitguru says: Whatever happens, it is clear that Sony really need a crash course in how to deal with their customers.
They are absolutely and utterly incompentent!
