Google Drive to launch next week, 5GB of storage included

As much as we would love to think Google's Drive cloud storage service will be a Dropbox killer, we still have to wait until it launches to know for sure. Our questions should be answered very soon though, there are reports that Google Drive will launch next week, possibly as early as Tuesday.

Google's cloud storage service is due to launch next week

What Google Drive will have over Dropbox is more than double the base storage; where Drive will offer 5 GB of cloud storage free of charge, Dropbox offers 2 GB. There will also likely be extra incentives to increase storage spaces, as well as the option to cough up some cash for extra room.

Google Drive will work within desktop folders on PC and Macs, similar to how Dropbox operates. There will also be applications for Android and iOS smartphones and tablets.

The cloud storage platform will allow syncing of folders and files between devices like many current competitors but it will also be closely integrated with Google services such as Docs and Picasa.

While not much else is currently known, we do know what its URL will be: http://drive.google.com.

KitGuru says: I know I'll be switching over to Drive next week as an avid consumer of everything Google.
