In just seven days Samsung will be holding their Mobile Unpacked event in London and while we still have no idea what the next Galaxy smartphone will look like, we now know what chipset will be inside. The Exynos 4 Quad. It has four ARM Cortex A9 cores running at up to 1.4 GHz and is built on Samsung's 32nm HKMG process.
The new Exynos 4 Quad will have double the performance at a 20% lower power cost over its predecessor; the Exynos 4210 found in Samsung's own Galaxy S II. Samsung points out that power gating will be present alongside individual core clocking and voltage scaling.
The specific GPU present in the Exynos 4 Quad is not disclosed in Samsung's official post but a ARM Mali-400 MP4 with higher clocks seems to be the most likely option. There is no mention of radio support either, specifically LTE. This could mean American LTE editions of the upcoming Galaxy smartphone will have to make do with Qualcomm's Snapdragon S4 chipset.
The Exynos 4 Quad will be “first-adopted into Samsung’s next Galaxy smartphone” which will be unveiled next week in London. It is also currently sampling to other major manufacturers, which could include the Meizu MX we saw a couple of weeks ago.
