Baldur’s Gate III becomes OpenCritic’s highest rated game of all time

Baldur’s Gate III has quickly become the new hotness, with the Larian Studios-developed RPG amassing a concurrent player count of over 800,000 upon its launch – almost 10x more than the studio expected. It seems the title’s sales success has been matched by its critical reception, with Baldur’s Gate III now becoming the highest rated game of all time on OpenCritic.

With a 97% on OpenCritic across 45 reviews (and a 100% recommendation rating), the recently-released Baldur’s Gate III has now become the highest rated game on the site, surpassing the previous champion Super Mario Odyssey – which rests at 97% (and a 98% recommendation rating).

OpenCritic is an aggregate site not too dissimilar to Metacritic, however unlike the latter, OpenCritic weighs all of the reviews equally – making for a seemingly more accurate consensus.

Of course, it is worth noting that Mario Odyssey currently has 3x more reviews than that of Baldur’s Gate III and even though the RPG has been out for a little under two weeks now, it is safe to assume that more reviews will roll in as further publications release their own reviews on the game.

Regardless, it is impressive to see just how quickly Baldur’s Gate III has blown up, with many believing it to be the new standard for turn-based RPGs thanks to its creativity and freedom of choice.

Whether Baldur’s Gate III retains its number 1 position or not, it is safe to say that the Larian Studio’s developed title is a bona fide success, putting the studio on the map in a whole new way.
