While it was initially believed that Call of Duty would be skipping 2023 in order to give Treyarch more time to work on their next game, the publisher later revealed that a new standalone Call of Duty title will be coming out this year. Now known to be Modern Warfare 3, the team seem to have confirmed that cosmetics from the current game will carry over upon its release.
Making an amusing post on Twitter, the official Call of Duty account published a poll saying “Let's get this out of the way… Should #MWII Operators, Weapons and Bundles carry forward into Call of Duty 2023?” with the only options being ‘Yes’ and ‘Yes, when is reveal?.’
While no further details were shared regarding the specificities of how this will work, the team did reply to their own post later, saying “Look for the first details about the [REDACTED] Reveal Event in the Season 05 Announcement and additional #MWII carry forward details soon. Stay frosty.”
According to previous leaks, this year was not going to see a new Call of Duty entry. Instead, the plan was to release an expansion to MWII which would offer a bunch of new content though little in the way of new mechanics.
Since then, the plan has changed with Sledgehammer Games being tasked with the development of a standalone MW3. All that said, it seems as though at the very least the two games will be connected in some way. We will hear more soon.
