Diablo 4 is getting review-bombed on Metacritic

The excitement for Diablo 4's first season quickly took a downturn earlier this week after Blizzard rolled out the latest patch for the game, bringing major nerfs to classes across the board, as well as things like XP game to slow player progress down. Players have already voiced their frustration with the pre-season patch across forums and now, they are turning to Metacritic.

Diablo 4 has been review-bombed on Metacritic following its most recent update. The user score for the game has taken a massive drop over the last 24-hours, hitting a low of 2.7 overall at the time of writing.

While a 2.7 overall score might be overdramatic for Diablo 4, it just goes to show how frustrated players are with the update. Rather than making improvements where requested, Blizzard has opted to slow progression down for everyone and created a situation where almost all characters are dying more often as defences were stripped, alongside offensive abilities.

The situation may improve slightly once the season goes live, as players will be able to obtain new items known as Malignant Hearts, which are essentially legendary gems that can improve gear further. Looking at the list of them, nothing stands out as a particularly powerful or crazy effect, but that could change once we get hands-on time.

Blizzard has already announced plans to fix a few things, such as Cinder drop rates during Helltides, which are currently bugged, as well as removing the level requirement for moving into World Tier 3 and 4. We'll have to wait for the developer stream on Friday to hear more.

KitGuru Says: The player base is not happy right now. I'm not pleased with the most recent patch either, but I still think Diablo 4 is a good game overall and I do have hopes that Blizzard will fix at least some of the mess it has made. Nerfs to the most powerful builds in the game should be expected, but blanket, game-wide nerfs like the ones we just saw should not happen.
