Diablo 4 gets major patch in preparation for Season of the Malignant

Earlier this month, Blizzard officially announced plans for Diablo 4's first season, unveiling the new seasonal mechanic and sharing more details on what progress will carry over to seasonal characters. In order to ensure your progress carries over for the season, you'll want to log in from today.

The Season of the Malignant doesn't kick off until Thursday, July 20th. However, to ensure your progress carries over to your first seasonal character, you'll want to log in starting from today with your highest-progress character. For seasons, all discovered map locations and collected Altars of Lilith will carry over, but as Blizzard didn't plan to allow Renown progress to carry over to seasonal characters initially, the developers need players to log in after installing today's patch to save the progress state and make it account-wide.

Unfortunately, your other Renown tasks, like side quests, waypoints, strongholds and dungeons will still be reset, so there'll still be some additional grinding required for seasonal characters to unlock all benefits, such as extra Paragon points and a larger cache for currency.
